Matthew 6:31-32

  • “Therefore, take no thought, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ (For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.”
Matthew 6:31-32, Modern English Version (MEV)

Again, Jesus is telling us we need to have the proper set of priorities. Gentiles, or worldly and carnal people, have their priorities set on accumulation of things, beautifying themselves, fame, power, and the list goes on. None of these things is our concern. God knows what we need and, more importantly, what we can handle. Following the crowd will only bring us pain and misery. In fact, our lives are relieved from a tremendous amount of pressure when we leave these things to God. With those concerns gone, we can turn our energies to more important matters.
