The Power of Prayer

  • This is my talk for the Power of Prayer for my gathering...

The reasons we pray are many, some pray asking for many things such as our health, our family, our financial sitiutation, for forgiveness and to thank our Creator for the many blessings he has bestowed on us.

We all hope our prayers are heard and that the answer that we receive will be what we want. However the Creator may grant your prayer, He may have other plans for you or His answer may be "no".

Some people only pray when they are stressed, (there is the old saying there are no non-believers in a fox hole) others pray once a day, while others may pray all day long.

There is also the common prayers that we all know, no matter what faith, they are memorized and repeated.  Sometimes when I look at people who are praying together in service, some can feel the prayer where as others just repeat the words.

Now I am not judging because you never know what is happening in that person life.. They be troubled and their body may be in church but their mind, heart and soul may be somewhere else.

Prayers can be spontaneous, read or memorized. These prayers are our affirmations in our faith. There is beauty in prayer it helps to calm us in times of trouble.  We rejoice in prayers when something good happens.

We also find the beauty in singing our prayers with music..

Some people pray while kneeling, others standing and others just sitting.  It does not matter what position you are in, whether your hands are folded and your eyes closed. Prayer is a personal matter and I do not think the Creator cares how you pray.  He is happy that you pray..

I know there are times I am called to pray at a service for a specfic event, I write my prayer out.  I have been asked many times for a copy of the prayer for them to keep. It is a nice gesture for that prayer may bring them comfort and peace.

So I will say this the Power of Prayer is personal, it is between you and the Creator, there is no right way there is no wrong way. You can pray in church, in your home, at school, at work, in your car, in the store, it can be a long prayer, short prayer, memorized or just wing it.

So with that I pray that you all are blessed today. Amen Amen.
