I recently talked with a true friend who mentioned that she felt that certain friends of hers seemed to be like parasites when they would meet. What should have been an easygoing, joyful experience she said left her listless. She used the term "vampire" in the context of these supposed friends who took but never gave. I mentioned to her that "vampire" was the appropriate term to use for these individuals were selfish spiritually and physically. I am noticing that this is the case more and more whether in organizations, churches, jobs that as opposed to a sense of community, mutualism, and cooperation, these days there is much selfish, self-motivation and opportunistic behavior. These are the vampires of our time and whether they know it or know they are not part of the true balanced nature of the life we have all been awarded (or blessed with).
