Change

  • Our world is always in a state of change and we are part of that change. Whether the change is for the good or bad it does not the stop the events changing. As events change, so do our thoughts and opinions since we learn by our environment. We meet people that change our way of thinking; we engage in discussions with others and gain knowledge which can change our perception on things. When I was in high school there were nine planets, now teenagers in high school know that there are only eight. Scholars change their finding based on more knowledge which changes what we know is to exist. To stop change is against nature as nature in itself changes. The seasons change, the aspect of the seasons themselves change. Does this change happen naturally or by outside influences?

I believe that his happens by both; a person can change naturally or by outside influence. A person changes naturally by growing. Their hair can grow which alters their physical appearance, it is something that cannot be controlled, it just happens. But a person changes with outside influences. A person can decide to keep their hair growing and not cut it or make the choice to cut it by either their own influence or an outside influence. Is this change wrong because they were influenced to cut their hair even though their genetic code make up allows it to grow? Natural occurrences happen with age as our dna breaks down and cells deteriorate and slow down. When this happens we get gray hair and baldness and cannot be stopped but can be altered by change with hair dye, wigs, and implants. The reason why we take the lengths to change this occurrence is out of desire so we make the conscious decision to change.

A person once told me, “I cannot be friends with someone who feels they need to "change" people to what they think they should be.” I believe this to be a redundant statement and the person not being able to be friends with someone with a different opinion other than their own. Their reflected statement signifies that they do not feel that people can change depending on outside influence. If your child was struggling with math and failing and an IQ test shows that they are below average in math, would you just let it go because it is there genetic makeup or would you bring in outside resources like tutors to guide him to be able to understand math better? We would still love them equally even though they have a low IQ score, but I think that idly accepting and not doing anything to guide them and change it would be unacceptable and unbeneficial. People with dyslexia have to change their way of receptive processes in order to be able to read and conform to society, we do not change books in order for the dyslexic to read, and it is the dyslexic who changes.

Genetic makeup should not be used as an inability to change. If we feel that way then we should start cloning and stop reproducing individuals. That way we can all think alike and not have conflict and not be able to grow both physically and spiritually. We would become one common collective with one thought process shared by a central processing unit, we would become the Borg. A single thinking function divided among appendages of living species. We would not be classified as individuals anymore we would be called a subunit of a larger unit.

I am proud to say that I am an individual who accepts changes from outside influences, if I didn’t I would not be the person I am today. I am joyful when my outside influence has changed others as this is a growing experience for them. We are all growing both physically, mentally, educationally and spiritually. I accept all people for who they are and consider them all a learning process in my life and I in fact change from it. To shove people out of your life just because you do not agree reflects who you really are and that shows more than any spoken word and is judgmental and close minded. I am glad I am not and can grow and CHANGE from any experience. Blessings!!
