Trusting God

  • Five years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I was told it was in an advanced stage. Because of my age and other health condtions, surgery was out of the question. Therefore, I was going to have to go through fourtyfive radiation treatments. To do this, meant having to drive to the closest hospital that had the radiation machine. Consequently, I was going to be forced to drive 225 miles for the next 45 days. I was concerned about being able to do this.

I was having to work each day also. I was getting up each morning at 4:00am and working till noon. I would drive to the treatment center for my appointment at 4:00pm and drive home, arriving about 7:00 or 8:00pm. My wife would have a sack meal made for me which I ate while traveling.

This trip, I knew, was going to be boring. If you have ever driven through the plains of eastern Colorado, you would understand. It's flat and more flat! It's so flat, if your dog ran off, you could watch it for three days. I was worried how I was going to be able to withstand this torture.

I had nobody to help me and felt this ordeal of driving the 225 miles for 45 straight days would be my end. I started praying to God and put my trust in Him. I prayed continually while driving. I prayed while waiting to lie on the cold table while my insides were being nuked and I prayed after during each treatment that God would heal me. I also prayed that God would give me help with my traveling.

To end this story, I was "TRUSTING GOD", fully and toattaly. Each day, my drive seemed to get shorter and shorter untill it seemed a short trip. Before I got cancer, I used to hate the drive from my home in Lamar to Pueblo, 225 miles round trip. Now the drive is a pleasure. I am now cancer free and I thank my Father for His love and mercy. I know that if I had not been "TRUSTING GOD", you would not be reading my testimony.

God has protected me my entire life. I also survived 67 rocket attacks while loading jet fighters with explosives and munitions during Tet in Viet Nam in 1968. Thank you Father!
