Entitlement

  • Entitlement

We live in a world where up is down, left is right, and right is wrong.  A place where all the rules have been tossed out, and those that play by the old rules are considered fools.

I find that it can pretty much be described as entitlement.

We are born with 4 basic emotions, Anger, Fear, Love and Joy.  These are the survival emotions, they keep us alive and on track.

Anger to help gather energy to protect ourselves and our loved ones, or even those that can’t protect themselves.

Fear to realize with the self is in danger, and to react accordingly

Love to fill the void, to ease the soul, to join with others

Joy to know you are on the right path, to feel accomplishment, to know happiness of being

Those four emotions are the basic God given emotions.  We are all born with them. But as we are growing other things creep in, also known as the 7 deadly sins, wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.  All of these “sins” are based on entitlement.  Things you think you are due, but haven’t earned.

Think about that and it makes me wonder what the word “sin” really means in the bible.  To me it’s not the hell and damnation things we hear of in Christianity.  It’s going against our original being, things that hurt us.  There is emotional pain in those deadly 7,  are wants that can’t be fulfilled.   No wonder they are called out as unpleasant attributes.  But you see we made these emotions, these sins.  We made them acceptable in our culture today.

The emotional turmoil that these “sins” causes can disrupt the calmest of person, the kindest of soul.  The reality of it all is all we NEED is air, food and water.  Hmmm shelter and clothes would be good too.  Everything else is a bonus.  Yes we have what we NEED, the rest is all things we want.
