Harold Camping

  • I know I have been concentrating a lot on Harold Camping lately, but since he is the one in the news, that is what has been on my mind. When judgement day came and went, I'll admit, my friends and I joked with each other about our eternal damnation, even though we know for a fact the opposite is true.

My biggest problem with Harold Camping is that he is a textbook false prophet. The very thing the bible warns about and yet, people follow him. I can't seem to wrap my mind around it. It's hard for me to believe that anyone who has actually read the bible can believe that this man truly knows when Jesus will come again.

I mean, anyone who's even thought about cracking open a bible has probably heard once in their lives: "But of that day and hour knoweth no (man), no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." ~ Matthew 24:36

And that is only one example (probably the widest known quote I've both said and heard throughout this past week).

This is another reason I haven't given in to the Mayan Calendar hype. While I've done plenty of looking around on it, I've found nothing showing that the Mayans said the end of the calendar equaled the end of the world. And again, if you just reference the bible, it will tell you that only God the Father knows when the end will be.

On a more humorous side of things, think of it this way. A smart God would take one look at the people on this planet and KNOW it would not be wise to give us an end date. Why? Because look at what happens whenever disaster or the threat of a disaster strikes. People do crazy things. Crime goes up, suicides rates go up. Basically, it's a state of chaos. Which is why I believe that the end will be kept a secret and will sweep onto us in surprise, before we have time to behave irrationally.

And honestly, what is the point of worrying? We can't predict it and we can't prevent it. If you are a true believer and do your best to live a Christ-like life, you are just fine. God never said you had to be perfect to get into Heaven.

That is just my two cents.
