As for a direct answer to your question I can only impart this: in the hebrew, 1611 KJV of the bible, and many other versions of the modern bible; in Genesis 1: 21-27 its states that God created man in his own image, making them male and female. It also states that he created the whales and every living thing after their kind, every winged fowl after their kind, and the cattle after their kind and every living beast after their kind.
Now since God was just populating the world, their were no animals of their kind here. This indicates to me that these animals that he was making like their kind must of been somewhere, just as he used his image to create us, I like to think that the likeness of these animals were in heaven with him. Isaiah 65: 17-25 it talks about how in the new kingdom the wolf shall eat with the lamb and the lion shall eat straw and they shall not hurt or destroy. This to me is evidence they will be in heaven.
