Atlas Resigns

  • Lifting the weight of the world from my shoulders.

Setting it down and taking a break.

Order some ice cream and maybe a pizza.

I’ll kick back ten minutes; ten minutes I’ll take.

This job I’ve been doing is tiring and thankless.

I’m working for peanuts; who needs it? Not me.

You’re all on your own with that incessant spinning.

Whatever will happen is just meant to be.

I’ve carried this orb on my back for a lifetime.

It’s crazy I know, but what can I say.

It’s over, I quit, and you’re all on your own.

I’m leaving my post; and I’m leaving today.

You may laugh all you want, it won’t do any good.

My neck is aching and my shoulders are sore.

I’m off on vacation with plenty of rest.

I can’t carry the world on my back anymore.~Jay Olson
