Take the Long Way

  •

It's a twisted path that leads us, to the place we wish to be.
There are bumps and bruises along the way, enough for you and for me.
If the way were smooth and free from strife, not a trouble or a care.
Such a boring trip would be our life, with nary a burden to bear.

Give me the steep and winding road any old day of the week.
Adventure, and stimulation, with thrills are what I seek.
It's a long and tedious journey, with nothing to task your soul.
Embrace the trouble that comes your way; learn how to duck and roll.

It's simple to wish for the easy life, wanting nothing to ever go wrong.
The troublesome way with unseen things produces a beautiful song.
To curse the troubles that plague our day is a fruitless waste of time.
Instead I'll give thanks for the time I have; ’Tis sweeter than any wine.

It's a twisted and gnarled path I'll take; the way could be narrow, or wide.
The path may be smooth or scattered with holes; the trick is to take it in stride.
To conquer the course before me, it's a puzzle of trouble and strife.
At the end of this path lies the treasure, of a full and interesting life.~Jay Olson
