Night Maneuvers

  • I gazed upon the moonlight and walked beneath the stars. I saw the dark above me--I saw the dark afar. The stillness of the evening calmed my trembling soul. I waited with a baited breath to hear the midnights toll. The owl and fox are on their way--creatures of the night. Silence sings its special song--the sun keeps out of sight. All around the forest deep--things of daytime lay in sleep. Dreams that lie inside our head--their promises now keep. The Kings and Queens rule the night with scepters black as coal. The emptiness of darkest night like ocean waves doth roll. My heart is beating slowly like a drum that leads a band. The steady tempo fills my head as I tread times shifting sand. What will become of yesterday when tomorrow lifts its head? Will all the unkept promises be buried with the dead? Breaking through the pitch black air that lies before my way, I eagerly march into the dark--I seek the light of day.~Jay O.
