40 Acre Blues (The Child)

  • Sometimes the fields are rocky and rough with many a row to hoe. With stones and weeds that block the path--how will the garden grow? The path is dry and tough as nails--it seems too hard to try. Will any plant grow from this packed, dry soil--beneath such a dreary sky? I’ve often wondered the point of it all, when the soil refuses to yield. Why should I toil behind the plow to plant an unwilling field? There’s a large old tree at the end of the row to offer comfort and shade. The branches are made from the deeds we do; the leaves from the friends we’ve made. Hold onto the plow for all you are worth--hold on with all of your might. A garden is paid for with beads of sweat and labor from morning till night. Some plants will grow with minimal care and grow to be straight and true. Other plants struggle to thrive or bloom; no matter what you may do. So plant your garden and follow the plow where ever the furrow may lead. Care for the plants that grow where you’ve tilled; give them the love that they need. From the day that the plow has broken the earth; till the fields are covered with frost. Never give up on the plants you grow and no harvest will ever be lost.~Jay O.
