Sugar and Grease

  • Shoelaces and buttons fill a clear glass jar. Thimbles and cookie crumbs lead to where we are. Empty plates and watermelon are strewn across the table. Life is one big celebration; have fun while you are able. It’s summertime with long hot days; the beach is overflowing. The festival is soon to start and everyone is going. Load the car and pack your tent, it’s time to head on out. Heading to the old camp grounds to laugh, to sing, and shout. Take me to the fairground. Take me to the beach. Don’t ask if I want pie or cake; just give me one of each. I’m going to have a funnel cake; maybe I’ll have two. I’ll wash them down with a root beer float; that is what I’ll do. The sun is shining brightly; the sky above is blue. My lawn in front is sparkling, with fresh cool morning dew. Outside, the car is packed and gassed; when all is said and done, There’s nothing like a holiday for having lots of fun. July is finally here at last; June has come and gone. Today the skies are blue; the birds are full of song. Thoughts that fill my head today are silly thoughts indeed. Sometime, simple silly thoughts are just the thoughts I need. Shoelaces and buttons. Watermelon and pie. Empty plates and cookie crumbs; birds and clear blue sky. Sand is in the hourglass; falling grains of time. Life can sometimes be unreal, like a nursery rhyme.~Jay O.
