ABSTAINING FROM VOTING

  • FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME I have chosen not to vote in an election.  Why?

Because politicians have been sending my husband invitations to vote and not me.  Because politicians have created jobs for my husband and not me.  I have not been able to find a full-time job for over 3 years despite having several college degrees and over 30 years work experience.  In my age bracket (50 and over) 59 % of us in Pennsylvania have been looking for a job for more than a year.

That's the real deal and yet when the President visited my neighborhood recently the local paper said he was here to assure that young people and African-Americans got out to vote.  Okay.  Not a problem.  I agree that these segments of the population should vote.  But do you want my vote?  Then say so.  And when I write letters about creating jobs for people like me what are you going to do about it?

With things being what they are I have chosen to exercise my RIGHT TO ABSTAIN from voting.

I don't have a job because people didn't vote for me.  Will there now be politicians without a job because I chose not to vote for them?

Guess we will wait and see.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Elder Mother Nanhi

The Rt. Rev. Mark Luljak As long as the entrenched 2-party system remains, as long as the electoral college is the deciding factor instead of the popular vote, and as long as we are given candidates that bring no substantive change to the table, I see no reason to vote.
