Spiritual Growth and Facing Fear and Weakness

  • I have found the pure joy of making time to do spiritual study even on the busiest of weekends. This weekend was no exception - lots going on, family obligations, friendship obligations. I enjoy these times because something always manages to test what I have been studying recently. Our Creator is wonderful in that respect.

This weekend my lessons seemed to deal with facing fears I wasn't even really conscious of - fears that were holding me back from growing, things I had to face in order to understand, accept, forgive and move past. Old relationships in review can bring up a lot of issues we never resolved at the time. Yes, resolution hurts; but once the wound is cleaned and bandaged the healing can begin and we can move forward on that path of 'Following Our Bliss' as the late Dr. Campbell called it. Sometimes spiritual growth involves removing the boulders we've put in our own pathways that keep us from growing and moving forward. The same lesson goes for facing and overcoming our weaknesses; for I have found in my own life experiences that fear and weakness are often hand-in-hand like two wicked pale ghosts from some nasty horror movie. Once we face those ghosts we realize that they were just that - ghosts, nothing more - and we need to learn to forgive ourselves and love ourselves for having let these things hold us back from what God has intended for us. That's all I have for the time being. Blessings to All - and have a great week! KH
