Virginia weddings

  • Hello,  I would like to know if there is a way to have my ULC ordination recognized by the counties in the State of Virginia?  I spoke with a county clerk who basically said "We don't recognize online ordinations." When I questioned her further she eventually admitted, "The state gives us the right to choose who we accept." I asked her about non-religious ceremonies and she said a minster would have to be willing to perform such services.

This is absurd!  She has the ability to tell me that because I don't conform to HER set of standards, that she can choose to deny my registration! I quoted her the exact wording from the Virginia law regarding this matter...she hung up on me.

I realize that the easy answer is to have couples get legally married at the courthouse and then have their wedding, but is there another way besides taking the State to Court (which is unrealistic)?

Any help from those in Va would be appreciated.
