Fear is the Mind Killer

  • A popular science fiction novel, "Dune", had a very good line in it.  "Fear is the mind killer."  Nothing could be closer to the truth.  Fear has a way of stopping people from moving forward on many levels. Fear renders people incapable of taking the next step.  Fear has left many people wanting, and without direction.  If we wish to conquer our fears, we must summon the courage to move when every fiber in our being tells us "Stop, don't move one inch!"  This requires that we practice taking control of our emotions   The more we are able to push our boundries, the easier it will be to go in a direction we have never gone.  If we are going to journey through our life experiences, we need to have the courage to look very closely at what we uncover.  In this way, we can understand why we react to certain situations the way we do, and remove the blocks we have built that shape our reactions.  The more we understand why we react the way we do, the more capable we are in tearing down the walls these blocks have formed.  Removal of these blocks are paramount to our success in discovering our true inherent sprits.

Try to think of ways you can practice conquering your fears.  Start with trying to control your fear and anxiaty when you are in a situation you may feel uncomfortable in.  In my work, I had to conquer the fear I felt when I was sitting in a room filed with convicted violent felons.  Believe me when I say, that can be unnerving.  We have the power to control our fear.
