Where the Crows Go - Mr. Rodgers' Final Words (Two Part Poem)

  • (This is a sample of a book that I am in the process of writing, I wish to gain for it publicity before I finish the book and list in on Amazon.com)

My mind is at a loss,

    as I travel on,

into a world that is so clean,

not even a single person is to be seen.

    I begin my journey,

    down memory lane,

    avoiding all the insanity,

trying so hard not to go insane

as I continue on traveling down memory lane!

As I continue to travel this long and winding road,

    Life starts to show,

Crows gathering along both sides of the road,

almost as if they are guiding me,

or welcoming me to their world,

a place where the green grass grow,

this is most surely a placewhere the crows go,

when they are not within our corn fields!

They begin to kneel before me,

as if I am some kind of Lord to them.

worshiping me as I pass by,

as though I have fallen from the sky,

I reached the end of the road,

    opening the door to exit,

only to be on the ground,

for this is where I lie,

for today is the day I died!

Mr. Rodgers, a well respected man, but well advanced in his years, has lived his life to the fullest only to find himself helpless and incapable of taking care of himself. Hopes Grove Manor, a nursing home has become his final residence! Sharing his stories with the nurses and nurses aides, he made working at that place an enjoyable experience to say the least! But, time sneaked up and sickness settled in, once full of spirit now laying upon his bed, hardly able to say a word, Mr. Rodgers has made it to the end of his journey. The aides felt so bad for him, wishing they could help him regain his light of life, but all they could do is give him comfort his last days at the Manor!

It was about 9:30 pm on a Tuesday night when some what of a miracle had taken place, Mr. Rodgers spoken and requested a note pad. Elizabeth was the aide working his hall, and she handed him a pen and note pad, gave him some time alone, he began to write. When he was finished he buzzed for Elizabeth, she answered his call light. Elizabeth he said ever so softly, please take this letter and take it to my family so they could read it at my funeral. Elizabeth takes the letter and just then all lights had left Mr. Rodgers eyes.

It was a very sad night, but a night that Elizabeth shall always remember, granting a dying man's wish by accepting the task he had given to her. It's a very important task that should be carried out and it was with this, he told her on the folded side of the paper, "Thank you Elizabeth so much for looking out after me, for you gave me enough comfort to finally leave my body and enter into the promise land waiting for me on the other side!" Signed Dr. Frank Eugene Rodgers.

    Elizabeth started crying, the Assistant Director of Nursing told her that she could go home early so that she could collect her thoughts and clear her mind so she would be able to come to work in the next two days. Elizabeth went home, but before she made it home she stopped off at the nearby lake, to gather herself together before going home. She opens the letter and begins to read;

    "My dearest wife,

Oh how I have missed you so, longing to being in your arms, I managed to keep my sanity while you were away, upon this day, this very hour, I can finally say, that I am on my way! I have worked so hard in coming up with a cure for the cancer that had taken you from me, and with this I am happy to be able to start up a map for others to follow and work towards in finishing what I have started. My love, I worked so hard and have completed my work and am ready to come home, after 20 years of being away from you, I am excited to seeing you again! The thought of holding you in my arms again has placed a smile upon my face, and coming to you my love with such a great haste!"

Elizabeth says her goodbyes and closes the letter, returns home and wraps her arms around her husband, cherishing the bond that they have and share! This is surely the moment that she will remember for the rest of her life and making this a memorable story for her grand kids and great grand kids to come! "Life is something not worth taking advantage of, for if you do not cherish every moment, you will never ever be able to cherish the moment when you finally depart from this life!" The world is a beautiful place when you actually take the time to take in the sights, for it is the beauty that helps bring peace to the human mind!
