The Pentacle/Pentagram

  •                                                 The Pentacle

        Representing the Element of Earth, the Pentacle is one of the most revered and misunderstood Symbols from the Wiccan Tradition. The Pentacle is a 5-pointed Star contained within a circle and often embellished around the outer edges with astrological symbols, or other insignia.

       The 5-pointed Star, or Pentagram, Represents; the Human form in perfection of mind and body, in graceful Harmony, the intellect in Balance with the extremities. Also Represents the 5 Elements of; Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit (Akasha), and also wholeness and oneness with the universe.

       In Modern times, we sometimes see the inverted pentagram used as a Symbol of evil; However, nothing could be further from the truth. While it’s true that placing the pentacle at different orientations carries different meanings, none of these associations are Baneful (Evil.)

      Up right Pentacle; (with the point at the top) , depicts the Spirit above matter and is a symbol of the Goddess. ‘Tis also for the use of protective Energies, a type of psychic shield.
       Inverted Pentacle; (with the point at the bottom), it corresponds to matter above Spirit, the quest for temporal gain, and the Horned God of materialism. {Not Satan} It is receptive Energies, or things we wish to call to us. These meanings carry no value judgment. Any and all value will come from the pure intention of the person using the Pentacle. {NOTE: though the Pentagram doesn’t represent a specific gender, its Energy is often considered to be female.}

    In Magickal Uses; The Pentacle Represents the practitioner’s ability to create or manifest desire/goal/will. As the embodiment of the Element of Earth, and the Realm of materialism, the pentacle provides a place, like an artist’s canvas, on which abstract thought forms can be brought to life.

    From Spiritual or Esoteric Viewpoint; The Pentacle Represents the realm of birth, life, death, and renewal (reincarnation.) During a magical operation, the Pentacle is used by the practitioner’s thoughts to help conceptualize such thoughts - believing that what the mind’s eye sees, will surely realize in physical form. The Pentacle becomes the oint of focus where all the practitioner’s attention is directed. If the practitioner’s are able to force their will toward a single purpose, they will achieve results and make manifest their desires.

    True beauty & power; of the Pentacle lies in its versatility. It provides the Practitioner with a mode of expression and a place to arrange his/her thought forms until they can be forced into reality.
