Prison of the mind

His prison cell, his personal hell locked up in the prison of his mind. He walks into the street not knowing who he is; not knowing why he is here. He just wonders why his life is so miserable and why he lives a mediocre life. He could have been anything he wanted to be in life yet he takes orders from the local fast food restaurant. He was called to be a leader but he goes with the flow and chooses to be a follower. He has built a fortress around his heart so that nobody could get in and he wonders why he is so lonely.

He has turned his mind into a prison and he is controlled by the demons that he created. Instead of setting himself free he makes excuses and blames others for his misery. Soon he turns to drugs, alcohol, sex, violence or whatever will help him escape his reality. He doesn't realize that his prison cell is getting smaller and his personal hell is getting deeper. He is locked in the prison of his mind and chases away anyone who tries to free him despite the fact he wants to be freed.

Many see their situation and their lives as hopeless, helpless and useless so they take the easy way out. A bullet to the head, a few slices to the wrist, an overdose on drugs. Is there a way out of their personal hell and prison cell without going to suicide? Yes, there is because I was once locked up in the prison of my mind. I was once living in my personal hell. Will he ever become free from his personal hell? I sure hope so.
