A brothers love; A mothers wisdom

  • A brothers love; A mothers wisdom

He stood there the proud little protector watching over his baby sister. He was about five years old and his family lived in a house full of mice and cockroaches. It was night time and not one mouse or cockroach was going to get to his baby sister. This proud little protector would one day grow up to be a warrior but on this night it was his mission to protect his sister from the rodents. He did not know that his family lived in poverty because there was a garden in the yard. Tomato’s, squash, strawberries, corn among other things. There were rabbits and chickens in the backyard and two dogs. There was always food on the table but nevertheless he and his family were living in poverty. It was late and this young boy was getting tired and sleepy when his mom came in to see why the kerosene lamp was still on in the room. She asked her son why he was still up and out of his bed. He told her and her heart must of swelled up with pride. She sat him on her lap and told him a story about a warrior. She then told him “Son one day you will be like this warrior and you will make people proud but now you must sleep so you can have energy to be a strong warrior.” That proud little protector was me.
