"SABBATH" = "REST"

  • It is a state of grace and forgiveness to live in with God. Jesus has brought a deeper; eternal and spiritual rest for our souls. It is a rest from our own efforts and works and trust in the mercy and grace of God. This is possible through the sacrifice made on the cross.“Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.  For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:    “So I swore in My wrath,    ‘They shall not enter My rest,’” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” Hebrews 4:1-3
    The concept of Sabbath “Rest” is as old as creation. Genesis 2:2 reads, “And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”He stopped to reflect on the goodness of His creation as an example for His creatures to follow. Because He knew that on our own we would not choose to stop; rest and reflect on the blessings in our lives. God made it a law.It’s right up there with - No stealing- No lying- Or adultery - And  respecting parents and honoring God“Have you felt guilty about having possibly broken God’s law to rest and worship Him?” Have you felt somehow that you cheated yourselves by not getting a heavenly prescription filled?”What is more vital than refreshing the spirit and renewing the mind? I guess that’s why God put Sabbath rest in his Ten Commandments. It’s a reminder that slaves cannot take a day off. Only free people can do that. “Are you free?”“Have you had your heavenly prescription filled?” ~Pastor Vania
