Rainbows and a child's view of death

  • (Brother)Brenten Stevens Had a special moment 2 weeks ago , my nice she is 5 lost her Denie ( dog) . Denie had been in this world for 17 years she was a old gal . Not to go deep into how she passed my niece later was watching my sister look over the ashes of Denie and my niece caught on right off . Her mom explained it on a child's level what and why we decided on cremation . The tears started rolling down her little face and my heart sank . She ran across the field not crying out loud just tears falling . I caught up to her dropped to my knees and hugged her , I explained life of our furry family members ( I have several ) and how painful it can be to loose our little loved ones . I told her , Denie is in heaven over the rainbow and when she sees a rainbow think of all the happy times we had with Denie . Hugs and a few more tears she perked up so I grabbed a base ball glove x2 and we started playing catch . Soon enough she was laughing and all was better . Suddenly while catching a tennis ball ( baseball is to hard and big for a 5 year old child ) she says Look a rainbow ! I looked up and sure enough in a blue sky no clouds there was a waving rainbow of sorts . Ice crystals high up and vivid bright colors . This event happened shortly after our talk and I hugged her and told her , see God is letting you know Denie is with him with Gretchen ( my little dog had passed 3 weeks earlier ) and they are in heaven now . Her face lit right up and mine 2 . Such events are rare to come together at the perfect moment , this was one of them . I took photos of that rainbow in a clear blue sky with my niece looking up at it . God answered a child's questions that very day at the prefect moment a moment I'll never forget . Gods mighty powers are all around us if you open your heart . Now I wish there was a place on here to share the photos , perhaps I'm missing that somewhere .
