We once babysat a ball python for a friend who wanted to give it to her son for christmas three weeks later. While the snake was with us, he began shedding his skin. After he had crawled out of his old sheath in the night, I noticed that he appeared blind. His eyes were completely white.
Within a short time, I don't remember if it was one day or two, the scales literally fell from his eyes and he was sighted again. This made Paul's blindness on the Road to Damascus and subsequent miraculous healing so real to me. the Bible says that "the scales fell from his eyes."
And it made me realize that we can develop scales on our inner "eyes" and "heart" as a hardening against the workings of the Spirit.
