Speaking Up

  • Message:

If you were at the park and you saw a group of kids bulling and picking on another kid, what would you do? Would you speak up and say something to the bullies, or would you do nothing? Right now, I am watching the show, "What Would You Do." If you haven't seen it, it is a show where they stage scenarios and see if people speak up or do nothing.

Why don't more people speak up and do the right thing? The answer is simple, it's because of fear. People fear that it isn't their place, or fear of being ridiculed, fear of the unknown, or just plain fear. So if fear stops you, let me ask you this, Why? Why are we so afraid of doing the right thing. We should be proud to be doing the right thing! We should be an example to the world. Show that we aren't afraid of doing the right thing!

With that being said, some people who do speak up can end up making the situation worse. Remember, you are speaking up to HELP the situation, not make it worse. First, and most important, you have to stay calm. Do not let them anger you and get you to the point where you are in the wrong. If you feel you can't help on your own or if the situation is getting worse, find additional help.

    Challenge:

Next time you see a situation, and feel you can help, don't let fear win, and go help.

    Scripture:

1 Peter 3:15-16- But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you: yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
