Being Content

  • I had quite the refreshing conversation this morning with someone who had me thinking about my own views of happiness.  He said, and I am paraphrasing here, "I strive to wake up each day content with my life...that would be what I would consider close to happiness."  That took me back a minute and made me reevaluate my definitions of contentedness and happiness, and are they one in the same?  In our society we are taught that being "content" is almost synonymous with "settling"...as if by being content, we are settling for less then what we should.  However, in all reality, being content is exactly the opposite.  It is embracing what your life is now and be fulfilled be that.  Is that not happiness?  This does not mean one stops moving forward and growing in their life...rather the opposite.  I believe when you find that you are content, feeling full, is rather when your life seems to flourish.

“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”
