How Big is Your Scroll?

  • Part I.  The Science Lesson:

Like a scroll unrolling in both directions, the Earth's basalt crust spreads away from the Mid-ocean ridges while faithfully recording within the rock mirror images of the historic reversals of the Earth's magnetic poles.

    Seafloor spreading       (link)

Interesting... but let's read some more about the magnetic pole reversals which actually document the timing and thus to some degree the size of these many "flips".

This article cites 450,000 years as an average cycle to change polarities, however, let us note that the periods range greatly with some being relatively brief to some being in excess of 10 million years long.  Basically we don't know when a reversal may happen again and we can only speculate as to what causes it since this has not occurred within recorded history.  There may be a good reason for that because there has also been some speculation as to whether these polar reversals may be causal of historical extinction events.   But note also: "Statistical analysis shows no evidence for a correlation between reversals and extinctions".  (Don't worry, be happy.)

This is known science which describe the workings of our own planet, but this same type of seafloor spreading, the "scroll" in addition to vast oceans of water has now also been documented as having once existed as the ancient history of our neighboring planet Mars,  The active magnetic field and the resulting reversals are now gone for Mars, so we might call it a "dead" planet in more than one respect.  Still we hope to find evidence of life there, perhaps that of the past if not of the present.

But where did all that water that was once on Mars go to?  For that matter where and when did Earth's own water come from, perhaps on multiple occasions?  Does Earth have some water which once served Mars?  Water is, as far as we know, a principle prerequisite to life. Could some forms of Martian life have migrated to Earth along with Martian water?  We've apparently found rocks from Mars here on Earth... why not oceans of water as well?  There are rumors of these floods, you see...

Nevertheless, magnetic reversals and seafloor spreading both represent quite natural, recently proven processes which may also be in evidence for millions of other planets to be found within our own Milky Way Galaxy.  Can this also be taken for granted for the billions of other galaxies we see and their presumed planets spread across the whole Universe.  To what extent could any such a "living" planet such as Earth or even ancient "living" Mars initiate, protect and support life as we know it, perhaps in ways we'd have some difficulty even recognizing?  We currently know of only one such "living" planet having any life at and that is Earth.  Lucky us!

    Q.   Why is my world so small?  Why is my vision so myopic?

    Part II.  The Religion Lesson:

All of this seafloor spreading and magnetic reversal science does, however, have some implications for the religious among us, the question being, "Are our own scrolls, those historic and surely infallible Holy religious documents upon which we base our faith(s), larger or smaller, older or younger than the worlds-wide ones we've just discussed which crosses great oceans of planet Earth and did so also for Mars as above described?".   If the Holy works are indeed infallible (and so they are!) is there something we've just determined as being wrong with any interpretation thereof which specifies all of creation as being little more than 6,000 years old?  Let us clear that up first...  at least for the Abrahamic religions.

The Hebrew word for "day" as having been translated into modern languages is "yom".  If the stars, sun and moon do not even show up until the forth "day" of creation, how do we then define then at least the first three yoms? A brief study should suffice... (And no, men did not play hopscotch with dinosaurs. Get over it.)

    Yom

But even within the English language itself, William Shakespeare is considered, in my opinion, to have been the greatest English language writer of his DAY.  I suspect he lived longer than a day to get all that writing done but I digress.  Back to Religion, with perhaps a few scientific implications thrown in... if one is paying attention.

Children of God, who among you are ready to eat meat? It does not yield easily and can only be appreciated by chewing with one's own teeth. However, such meat cannot be savored by the multitudes. Fear not, for in the eyes of the Lord the knowing of the world always takes second place to having faith in Him alone. Even the blind and deaf can get this one...

On the day of the Lord, consider what the prophets (who cannot lie) said:

Joe 2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Joe 3:15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Amo 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end [is] it for you? the day of the LORD [is] darkness, and not light.
Amo 5:20 [Shall] not the day of the LORD [be] darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mar 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
Mar 13:25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
Act 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
    Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
Rev 8:12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.

    Darkness, Darkness, Darkness...    > < = 0

If by being under the direction of God true prophets cannot lie and even as science itself always seeks truth by it's own proofs, how stands then Jesus, the Jewish (possibly mystic) Rabbi, the proclaimed Son of God who is given the Throne of Judgement, or the one true Prophet who shall return to us (depending upon who you ask) speak the truth?

Mat 19:30 But many [that are] first shall be last; and the last [shall be] first.
Mat 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Mar 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
Mat 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Luk 17:20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luk 17:21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Luk 17:22And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see [it].
Luk 17:23And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after [them], nor follow [them].
Luk 17:24For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one [part] under heaven, shineth unto the other [part] under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

The questions remains, where lies an answer as to how and when all these things shall come to pass? As for the Day of the Lord, only time, or perhaps the absence of time, will tell. Did you ever have your whole life suddenly flash before your eyes? The trick in this is to not die immediately afterwards, and anyway - you already know the answer to this one.  Or not?

Think!  The answers are always given, but seldom if ever directly because such things are called mysteries for good reason.  Luminous beings and even one's soul, absent the mass of a body are not constrained by the "illusion of time" as Einstein put it.  But that said, "the first shall be last", "this generation shall not pass", and "of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven..." all these "lies" about the timing of things coming from Jesus - who cannot lie, so what is left to think?

It is, as I mentioned earlier, a Mystery.  As such any reader regardless of faith or understanding as to the nature of mysteries has done well to continue reading this far but it might yet serve him or herself well to continue no further.  No matter, such mysteries are guarded by "curtains behind curtains" to repeat some other lost mumbo jumbo, so the unprepared mind either simply rejects or cannot even fathom the scope of such things.  Call it a scotoma, because surely the answer is already right before you even now, even yesterday, even from the day of your conception.

    "Fly you fools!" - Gandolph

Time to put all matters to rest... time.  The only problem with expectations is the timing thereof.  So look no further,  Do not look towards the future, expecting a specific "time" for the Day of the Lord. It will come to you and it will come for you, both wherever and whenever you are - just as it will come for every day, every second and every blink of every person's eye who has ever lived or ever shall live for that matter.

Science would seem to agree.  Einstein once said, "For we convinced physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only an illusion, however persistent.  Imagine a cosmic event, or even perhaps a relatively local one, say, within our particular spiral arm of the Galaxy whereby our illusion of time, our only guiding agent of causality is suspended... and thus our perception of time collapses upon itself...

The last shall be first, the first shall be last, this generation shall not pass... no generation shall pass, the Yom is now.  The Yom is now for every now, forever and ever, past, present and future.  I suspect Jesus (the ultimate insider) knew this all along, but then He apparently had a habit of speaking in parables and riddles. If you have to ask why He did this, obviously you do not know Jesus, but that is written also. Who knew he was a physicist?  Would I dare to call this crazy idea a "string along" theory?  Perhaps not, but feel free to chew on that a while also.

    Regards!

Gus St. Anthony Most, if not al,l of the words attributed to Jesus ...parables, riddles and, even prayer were put into his mouth decades after he died by Pauline followers who had their own brand of Gnostic/Zoroastrian theology with a dollop of Essene thought in the mix....  more
