Romans 8:9

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
    Romans 8:9

We show who is in control in our lives by the way we live! We show our relationship to the Father by living with his character in our world. So let's live under the control of the Spirit, obeying the Spirit's inspired Word and following the Spirit's lead, so we can show and share Jesus in what we say and do!

Before we came to know Christ we were continually defeated by sin. When we came to know Him and to receive the indwelling Holy Spirit we were able to attain a standard we could never reach in our own strength. In interpreting these words the emphasis is on the way the Christian life is lived.

As believers, we now possess a new heart which energizes a new motivation and desire to please God and to obey Him. We can now obey because God has placed that desire in our new heart and given us the abilities and power of His indwelling Holy Spirit. We have the power to satisfy His commandments fulfilled in "love God and love your neighbor".

We can fulfill these requirements by His power not because we try hard to "keep" the Law. If we try to "fulfill" the requirement of the law in our own strength or power, we will fail because the power of Sin (our old sin nature, the old Adam) lies in the LAW.

To fulfill the requirement of the Law is only possible as we learn to surrender to, lean on, submit to, yield to and rely on the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer. The external, written code was unable to accomplish this requirement but, the Spirit is able to do so by writing the law on our hearts and giving us the power to obey it.

Dear Father, please help the beauty, grace, and holiness of Jesus to be seen in me. May my life show the control, grace, and fruit of the Holy Spirit in all I do today and every day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
