Soon after Donald Trump won the presidential election a strange story appeared in the news. Gatherings of witches were being held under the crescent moon across America and the world to cast spells against the new president. This past autumn, a major gathering of witches was planned to take place in Brooklyn to cast spells against the new Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Such news stories have no precedent in modern America. But the stories were evidence of another phenomenon that transcended politics or even the culture war. The phenomenon is this: America, along with much of the west, is experiencing an explosion of witches.
The number of Americans identifying as witches, Wiccan or actively pagan now outnumber Americans identifying as Presbyterian. To put this in historical perspective, at the time of the witch scare and trials of Salem, it is estimated that the entire population of New England could have fit inside Yankee Stadium. It is estimated that the number of witches in America is now over 1.5 million. To put this into current perspective, the population of witches in America now exceeds the population of twelve of the nation’s states. And it is not only witchcraft that is exploding in America, but the worship of Satan. Why?
It is not hard to explain. First, we are living in the end-times. The Bible foretells it. It is prophesied that in the last days, immorality will increase, there will be a persecution of believers, and people will in effect— knowingly or unknowingly— become worshipers of Satan. So we would expect an increase in all things occult, dark and satanic and that is exactly what we are witnessing.
Beyond that, there is a spiritual correlation. As I wrote in both The Harbinger and The Paradigm, we are replaying what happened in the last days of ancient Israel: the nation’s apostasy and fall. As Israel turned away from God, it created a vacuum and into that vacuum came other gods. This is exactly what we are now experiencing. It is no accident that as America turns away from God and as many turns away from the Church and the Gospel, there is an increased turning to witchcraft, Satan worship, paganism, new age practices, and the occult. One gives birth to the other.
It may shock us, but it shouldn’t surprise us. It is exactly what the Bible foretold. How then, shall we live? We must live as lights to the darkness. We must stand for and declare the truth of God, His Word, and the Gospel. We are not to make enemies of those in darkness but pray for them, love them and share with them the love and salvation of God.
Live this month as a light in the darkness. Shine all the more to every and any darkness in your life and world. Spread the Gospel! And may God greatly bless you as you do!
