  • Jesus: The Son
All things have been delivered to Me
    by My Father,
and no one knows the Son except the Father.
Nor does anyone know the Father
    except for the Son,
and the one to whom the Son
    wills to reveal Him.
    Matthew 11:27

Jesus is the Son. He’s the Son of man, the Son of God, the Son of the morning and the Son of Mary, but His most eternal relationship is the Son of the Father. Just as, on Earth, a son has the nature of his father, so Jesus has the divine nature of His heavenly Father: “I and My Father are one” (John 10:30). Just as an earthly son gets life from his father, so Jesus gets life from the heavenly Father: “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself” (John 5:26). Just as a son wants fellowship with his earthly father, so Jesus constantly spent time in prayer with His Father.

Jesus, I want to fellowship with You and the Father, just as You and the Father had fellowship with one another when You lived on Earth.

Notice how an earthly son is like Jesus: a son obeys his father just as Jesus obeyed the heavenly Father; a son pleases his father just as Jesus pleased the Father; a son usually looks forward to spending time with his father just as Jesus longed to return to His Father in Heaven (John 17:11-13); a son is usually concerned about the reputation of his father just as Jesus was (John 17: 4-6).

Jesus, You are a wonderful example of what a son should be to the heavenly Father. I want to be obedient and respectful, and I want to please the Father just as You pleased Him. Amen.

    Go Deeper: John 5:19-24

In, His relationship to the Father, Jesus reflects the characteristics of a son.
