  • Jesus: The Mediator Between Us
Nor is there any mediator between us,
Who may lay his hand on us both.
    Job 9:33

Job was looking for a Mediator to be a neutral arbitrator between God and him. A Mediator is an umpire, an advocate or an impartial judge. God had removed the hedge of protection from Job, and Satan had stripped Job of his family, possessions, and health. In Job 9:27-31, Job suggested that no matter how hard he had tried to vindicate himself, nothing worked. He wanted someone who was neutral to judge between God and him. Job wanted someone who was powerful enough to be separate from God and to stand against Him. Of course, such a thing would be impossible unless the Mediator was equal to God or, as in this case, was God Himself. Jesus is the Mediator who stands equal with the Father and yet stands for Job. Jesus is our Mediator who takes our case and pleads it to the Father.

Jesus, thank You for taking my side when I didn’t deserve anything. Jesus, thank You for being my Mediator with the Father.

Jesus is the Mediator because He is equal with the Father, yet He came to Earth to take on flesh. He lived in our shoes, so He understands our weaknesses. Because Jesus died to forgive our sins, He now stands between the Father and us. He asks the Father to forgive us because He has paid the ransom for our sins. Jesus the Mediator asks the Father to receive us into Heaven and to make us His child.

Jesus, thank You for being my Mediator. Thank You for going to the Father to plead my case. Amen.

    Go Deeper: Job 9:21-35

Jesus is the neutral umpire who gets the Heavenly Father to accept us.
