  • Jesus: The King Eternal
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible,
to God who alone is wise,
    be honor and glory
    forever and ever. Amen
    1 Timothy 1:17

Jesus is the King Eternal. Just as an earthly king rules his kingdom through his laws, so Jesus rules the universe by His laws. Jesus controls the natural world through natural laws, and He allows earthly rulers to control the social and political life of people through their judicial laws. Jesus recognizes earthly judicial laws and calls on all people to obey them (Romans 13:1-7). Jesus controls the spiritual world through spiritual laws; it is through these laws that He wants to direct your life.

Lord, be my King; I want You to direct my life. Come sit upon the throne of my heart to rule it.

Jesus is the King Eternal. He has always ruled the universe. Look at one of His natural laws, such as the law of gravity; break this law and you’ll suffer the consequences. Because He allows the Evil One to act contrary to His spiritual laws does not mean that Jesus is not in control. He wants all people to serve Him out of love, not coercion. Those who choose to follow Jesus will be rewarded. Those who reject His rule will be punished. Today, Jesus is Lord of those who yields to Him; but in the future “every knee should bow, . . . every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:10-11). Will you recognize Him today?

Lord Jesus, I bow to worship You as my King. I accept Your rule upon this earth and will serve You gladly. Amen.
