  • Jesus: The Fountain of Life
    For with You is the fountain of life;
    in Your light we see light.
    Psalm 36:9

    When you’ve been on a long, hot walk, what you want is water. Sometimes the heat gets to be too much, and you’re in danger of a heat stroke. You need some cool water on your tongue and something wet on the back of your neck. If you’re in really bad condition, you stick your whole head in the water. When you need water to keep from fainting, Jesus is your Fountain of Life who will give you a new presence of mind and a new focus. Do you need to cool down your anger, frustration, or bitterness?

    Lord, I need some cool water before I leave home because it’s pretty hot out there. And when I get home at the end of the day, I’ll need more water to refresh my life for the evening duties.

    Sometimes at work, you need a drink of water to refresh your work habits. Sometimes you need a drink of water in the middle of the night because you wake up and your mouth is dry and you can’t sleep. Sometimes a drink of water makes you think better, play better, talk better, or perform better. For whatever you need, pause to drink of Jesus. Just as water energizes the body, so the renewed presence of Jesus revitalizes your life. Remember, Jesus, the Fountain of Life, called Himself “a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14).

    Jesus, I come to drink of You. Ah, water is good when you’re thirsty. I’ll keep coming back because I need You daily. Amen.

    Reading: Psalm 36
