Coffee Time with Jesus

  • Jesus: The Good Shepherd
    I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
    John 10:11

Jesus called Himself the Good Shepherd because He does what good shepherds do: They give their lives for their sheep. They give up the pleasures of home to live outside in the pastures with sheep, just as Jesus gave up the glories of Heaven to come to Earth for His sheep. A good shepherd gives up his freedom to watch sheep; Jesus gave up His eternal existence to take on the limitations of human flesh. A good shepherd gives up his sleep to search for lost sheep; Jesus came to earth to search for the lost (Luke 15:4-7). A good shepherd gives up his safety to brave the storm or fight a predator; Jesus came to earth to be tempted, ridiculed, and persecuted. A good shepherd will die protecting his sheep; Jesus gave His life on the cross for the world. Jesus said, “Other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring” (John 10:16).

Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd who gave Your life for the world. You are my Shepherd; I feel safe in Your presence.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd who asks you to become a shepherd for His sheep. He told Peter, “Take care of my sheep” (John 21:16). Just as Jesus is your Shepherd, you must become a shepherd to someone who needs your care. Peter wrote, “Care for the flock of God”
    (1 Peter 5:2).

Lord Jesus, You are my Shepherd; thank You for caring for me. I will give shepherd care to someone else. Amen.

    Go Deeper: 1 Peter 5:1-11

The Good Shepherd gives His life for you.
