There are all kinds of light—sunlight, moonlight, and the light from a fire, candle or light bulb. Satan is an “angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14) who attracts people to sin and death. The original source of all light is Jesus, the Light who is the Light of Men (John 1:4; John 8:12). When people are lost in darkness, Jesus is the Light of salvation that directs people to Heaven. Just as light illuminates the right path so people won’t get lost, so Jesus is the right path to Heaven. Just as the light will keep away dangerous predators, so Jesus is the Light that protects us on our journey. Just as the light makes it possible to read and explore things, so Jesus helps us learn and grow as Christians. Just as light makes us comfortable in the night, so Jesus gives us “the light of life” (John 8:12).
Jesus, shine a light on me today.

Lord Jesus, You are the Light of my life. Keep me from getting lost. Keep me from getting hurt. Keep me from the dangers of sin. I will follow Your light. Amen.
