The Holy Spirit: The Spirit of Understanding
The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. Isaiah 11:2
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Understanding; He can distinguish between the counterfeit and the real. Even though people use Christian words and gestures and claim to know God, He knows what is genuine and what is fake. He will help you take inventory of your spiritual life and show when you are sincere and when you are just being outwardly religious.
O Spirit of Understanding, expose any counterfeit motive in my life, and help me be genuine in character and service. Help me worship the Father authentically. I want to be like Christ. Give me real spiritual power to live the Christian life.
The Spirit of Understanding recognizes a sincere heart in worshipers; that’s why He gives them self-understanding. He encourages all those who want to be conformed to the image of Christ; that’s why He gives them self-evaluation. He values all those who want to live an authentic Christian life; that’s why He gives them self-direction for their daily walk. When the Spirit of Understanding rests upon you, then you can have self-assurance that you are doing the will of God. Then “the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16).
O Spirit of truth, come show me my failures so that I can correct them; show me my hypocrisy so that I can humbly walk with You; show me Your will for my life, and help me do it. O Spirit of Understanding, come give me assurance today. Amen.
The Holy Spirit will show you what is real and what is fake.
