They were bed-ridden and deathly ill in a prison hospital. One of the prisoners would lie in bed going on about the beautiful things he saw outside the window. Some of the other prisoners just closed their eyes and took it in. Others were envious. One day the prisoner died and one envious prisoner moved into the vacant bed. He looked out the window expecting to see a beautiful scene. Instead he saw the brick wall of another wing of the hospital. All that the departed prisoner had seen existed not on the other side of the prison wall, but inside his heart. An important lesson - the scenery that surrounds your life matters little, it's what's inside your heart that will determine the life you lead. We spend so much time trying to change the scenery of our life when the scenery is not what determines our life, joy, peace, or what kind of life we live. The Bible contains a prayer that the eyes of our hearts would be open, so that we might see the love, hope, and glory that is outside - on the other side of a prison wall.
