Coffee Time with Jesus

  • Jesus: The Advocate
My little children, these things I write to you,
so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins,
we have an Advocate with the Father,
    Jesus Christ the righteous.
And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins,
and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
    1 John 2:1-2

Jesus is the Advocate, the Defense Lawyer who will defend you against any accusations by Satan, “the accuser of our brethren” (Revelation 12:10). Let Jesus be your Advocate. Every time the Enemy points out a sin in you, Jesus will defend you, because “the blood of Jesus Christ . . . cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). Let your Lawyer handle your sin.

Jesus, thank You for being my Advocate. Satan discourages me. I admit that I am not perfect, and I confess my sin (1 John 1:8-9). Jesus, defend me against the Enemy. I claim Your promise that “there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

You can’t plead ignorance or that you did not sin. If you say that you have not sinned, you make Christ a liar (1 John 1:10). Tell your Advocate what you’ve done. He is your Defense Lawyer. Let Him put together your defense and plead it to the Father. The Advocate will know how to defend your case. He will plead the blood, which satisfies all legal claims against you. Don’t try to go it alone; you can get forgiveness for all your sin (1 John 1:7).

Lord, sometimes my biggest problem is myself; I can become guilt ridden, or I get discouraged, or I want to just give up. Come, Advocate, defend me from my doubts and self-incrimination. Help me to be victorious in life. Amen.

Jesus can defend you from the attacks of the enemy.
