Coffee Time with Jesus

  • Jesus: The Fruit of Mary's Womb
Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said,
    ‘Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb!’
    Luke 1:42

Jesus is the Fruit of Mary’s Womb. The Holy Spirit supernaturally conceived Jesus in the virgin Mary, and nine months later He was born in Bethlehem. Jesus was eternal: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Jesus “came forth from the Father” (John 16:28). While Jesus’ spirit and personality came from Heaven, His physical body came from Mary. Jesus can rightly be called the Fruit of Mary’s Womb. When Mary watched Jesus grow, she saw her physical son developing. The Bible calls Jesus “her firstborn Son” (Matthew 1:25).

Lord Jesus, thank You for becoming flesh to live as a human being. Thank You for limiting Yourself to be like finite people so that You could die for them.

Jesus, the eternal God, became fully Man. Jesus, the Man, was fully God. He was the God-Man, always fully God and always fully Man. While we humans can’t understand it, we read these apparent contradictions in the Bible and accept them both. They harmonize perfectly in Jesus. As a human, Jesus felt tired, hungry and thirsty. He didn’t know who touched Him (Mark 5:31); and He didn’t know the date of His second coming (Matthew 24:36), though He knew He was coming back. As God, Jesus raised the dead (Mark 5:38-42), calmed a storm (Mark 6:47-51) and read people’s thoughts (Mark 2:8). What wonderful Fruit of Mary’s Womb!

Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to Earth to be born of Mary; I will try to follow Your example as a Man; I will worship You as God. Amen.

    Go Deeper: Luke 1:36-45

From Mary, Jesus received His body, through which He fulfilled His task on earth.
