Coffee Time with Jesus

  • The Holy Spirit: The Spirit Whom He Has Given Us
Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him.
And by this we know that He abides in us,
by the Spirit whom He has given us.
    1 John 3:24

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit Whom He Has Given Us. He is the One that Jesus promised to give you (John 14:17). There are no good works you can do to receive the Holy Spirit; He is a gift. Just as a gift is given without obligation, so the Holy Spirit is given freely to you. All you did was “believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 3:23), and the Holy Spirit came into your heart to give you assurance of salvation. Because you have the Holy Spirit living in your life, you can know (have the assurance) that you are a child of God.

Holy Spirit, gratefully I receive You, as I would receive any gift. Thank You for entering my life. Thank You for assurance of salvation.

The Holy Spirit is a gift to all believers. When He was sent on the Day of Pentecost, He appeared as the sound of a mighty rushing wind and as cloven tongues of fire (Acts 2:1-4). He was manifested with mighty symbols to tell all believers that He will do a mighty work when He enters their hearts. Just as the Holy Spirit came upon all believers in the Upper Room, so He enters all who are saved. As a matter of fact, Paul says, “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His” (Romans 8:9).

Holy Spirit, thank You for indwelling my heart. Thank You for the spirit of confidence, which is greater than the spirit of anxiety. Thank You for giving me the assurance of eternal life. Amen.
