O God, come to our aid.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.

The Lord, support of the just
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied” (Mt 5:6).
The Lord cares for the weak and oppressed.
In the Lórd I have táken my réfuge. †
Hów can you sáy to my sóul: *
‘Flý like a bírd to its móuntain.
See the wícked brácing their bów; *
they are fíxing their árrows on the stríng
to shóot upright mén in the dárk. *
Foundátions once destróyed, what can the júst do?’
The Lórd is in his hóly témple, *
the Lórd, whose thróne is in héaven.
His éyes look dówn on the wórld; *
his gáze tests mórtal mén.
The Lórd tests the júst and the wícked; *
the lóver of víolence he hátes.
He sends fíre and brímstone on the wícked; *
he sends a scórching wínd as their lót.
The Lórd is júst and loves jústice; *
the úpright shall sée his fáce.

Psalm-prayer
Lord God, you search the hearts of all, both the good and the wicked. May those who are in danger for love of you, find security in you now, and, in the day of judgement, may they rejoice in seeing you face to face.

Who is worthy to face the Lord?
“You have come to Mount Sion, to the city of the living God” (Heb 12:22).
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Lord, whó shall be admítted to your tént *
and dwéll on your hóly móuntain?
Hé who wálks without fáult; *
hé who ácts with jústice
and spéaks the trúth from his héart; *
hé who does not slánder with his tóngue;
hé who does no wróng to his bróther, *

Make our lives blameless, Lord. Help us to do what is right and to speak what is true, that we may dwell in your tent and find rest on your holy mountain.

You first chose to live among men, Lord Jesus, and in returning to your Father you made an eternal home for us. Help us walk blamelessly in your ways, that we may come at last to your holy mountain.

God the Saviour
God chose us in his Son and made us his adopted sons.
Blessed be the God and Father *
of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us in Christ *
with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
He chose us in him *
before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy *
and blameless before him.
He destined us in love *
to be his sons through Jesus Christ,
according to the purpose of his will, †
to the praise of his glorious grace *
which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

Magnificat
My soul rejoices in the Lord
The angel of the Lord brought the good news to Mary, and she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, alleluia.
My soul glórifies the Lórd, *

henceforth all áges will cáll me bléssed.
The Almíghty works márvels for me. *

As we make our evening prayer, we acknowledge the times when we have preferred darkness before true light.
– Lord, that we may see!
You came, as man, into this world:
free us from the darkness of its sin.
– Lord, that we may see!
Forgive us the hatred and envy that cloud our vision:
give us a generous spirit.
– Lord, that we may see!
You come to us through those who share our lives:
open our hearts to recognize you.
– Lord, that we may see!
Lord, do not forget our brothers,
who in all ages have hoped to see your light.
– Lord, that we may see!

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
