The Holy Innocents, Martyrs - Feast

    Morning Prayer (Lauds)

    Introduction (without Invitatory)

If this is the first Hour that you are reciting today, use the version with the Invitatory Psalm instead.

O God, come to our aid.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
        and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
        world without end.
    Amen. Alleluia.

    ________

    Hymn

    All hail the power of Jesus’ name;
        Let Angels prostrate fall;
    Bring forth the royal diadem
To crown him Lord of all.

Crown him, ye Martyrs of your God,
        Who from his altar call;
Praise him whose way of pain ye trod,
And crown him Lord of all.

Hail him, ye heirs of David’s line,
        Whom David Lord did call;
    The God Incarnate, Man Divine,
And crown him Lord of all.

Let every tribe and every tongue
        To him their hearts enthral,
    Lift high the universal song,
And crown him Lord of all.

    Psalm 62 (63)
    Thirsting for God

“Let the man who has put away the deeds of the night watch for God.”

They will walk with me dressed in white garments, says the Lord, because they are worthy.

O Gód, you are my Gód, for you I lóng; *
for yóu my sóul is thírsting.
My bódy pínes for yóu *
like a drý, weary lánd without wáter.
So I gáze on yóu in the sánctuary *
to sée your stréngth and your glóry.

For your lóve is bétter than lífe, *
my líps will spéak your práise.
So I will bléss you áll my lífe, *
in your náme I will líft up my hánds.
My sóul shall be fílled as with a bánquet, *
my móuth shall práise you with jóy.

On my béd I remémber yóu. *
On yóu I múse through the níght
for yóu have béen my hélp; *
in the shádow of your wíngs I rejóice.
My sóul clíngs to yóu; *
your ríght hand hólds me fást.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
        and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
        world without end.
    Amen.

They will walk with me dressed in white garments, says the Lord, because they are worthy.

    Or:

This morning, Lord, we lift up our hands to praise you. We thirst for you; we long for you. Help us to love you more than life itself and fill us with good gifts from your banquet table.

    ________

    Prayers and intercessions

Lord Jesus, even at your birth, you met with the hatred of men, and children were the first to suffer for your sake. We proclaim our trust in you:
    – The Lord is at my side: I shall not fear.

As you were persecuted, so will be your brothers.
Lord Jesus, we look to you for help.
    – The Lord is at my side: I shall not fear.

You committed no sin: yet you, like us, were called to suffer.
Help us to take up our cross and follow you.
    – The Lord is at my side: I shall not fear.

The Holy Innocents were your silent witnesses:
may we proclaim you to others by word and deed.
    – The Lord is at my side: I shall not fear.

As a child you were persecuted and driven into exile:
save all the children of men, in exile or under persecution.
    – The Lord is at my side: I shall not fear.

    ________

Our Father, who art in heaven,
        hallowed be thy name.
    Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
        and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
        but deliver us from evil.

    ________

    Lord God,
the Holy Innocents bore witness to you
not by speaking but by dying.
Grant that the faith we proclaim in words
may be borne out by deeds.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
    Amen.

    ________

The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
        Amen.
