O God, come to our aid.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
    and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
    world without end.
    Amen. Alleluia.

    Hymn

O Christ, the heavens’ eternal King,
    Creator, unto thee we sing,
With God the Father ever One,
    Co-equal, co-eternal Son.

Thy hand, when first the world began,
Made in thine own pure image man,
And linked to fleshly form of earth
A living soul of heavenly birth.

And when the envious crafty foe
Had marred thy noblest work below,
Thou didst our ruined state repair
By deigning flesh thyself to wear.

Once of a virgin born to save,
And now new born from death’s dark grave,
O Christ, thou bidd’st us rise with thee
    From death to immortality.

    Eternal Shepherd, thou art wont
To cleanse Thy sheep within the font,
That mystic bath, that grave of sin,
Where ransomed souls new life begin.

    Divine Redeemer, thou didst deign
To bear for us the cross of pain,
And freely pay the precious price
Of all thy blood in sacrifice.

Jesu, do thou to every heart
    Unceasing Paschal joy impart;
From death of sin and guilty strife
Set free the new born sons of life.

All praise be thine, O risen Lord,
    From death to endless life restored;
All praise to God the Father be
    And Holy Ghost eternally.

    ________

    Psalm 19 (20)
    Prayer for victory

“Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved” (Acts 2:21).

Now our God reigns, and power belongs to Christ, his anointed one. Alleluia.

    May the Lord answer in time of trial;
may the name of Jacob’s God protect you.

May he send you help from his shrine
and give you support from Sion.
May he remember all your offerings
and receive your sacrifice with favour.

May he give you your heart’s desire
and fulfil every one of your plans.
May we ring out our joy at your victory
and rejoice in the name of our God.
May the Lord grant all your prayers.

I am sure now that the Lord
will give victory to his anointed,
will reply from his holy heaven
with the mighty victory of his hand.

Some trust in chariots or horses,
but we in the name of the Lord.
    They will collapse and fall,
but we shall hold and stand firm.

Give victory to the king, O Lord,
give answer on the day we call.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
    and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
    world without end.
    Amen.

Now our God reigns, and power belongs to Christ, his anointed one. Alleluia.

    Psalm-prayer

Lord, you accepted the perfect sacrifice of your Son upon the cross. Hear us during times of trouble and protect us by the power of his name, that we who share his struggle on earth may merit a share in his victory.

    ________

    Psalm 20 (21)
    Thanksgiving for victory

“He accepted human life, so that he could rise from the dead and live for ever and ever” (St Irenaeus).

You have assumed your great power, you have begun your reign. Alleluia.

    O Lord, your strength gives joy to the king;
how your saving help makes him glad!
    You have granted him his heart’s desire;
you have not refused the prayer of his lips.

You came to meet him with the blessings of success,
you have set on his head a crown of pure gold.
He asked you for life and this you have given,
days that will last from age to age.

Your saving help has given him glory.
You have laid upon him majesty and splendour,
you have granted your blessings to him for ever.
You have made him rejoice with the joy of your presence.

The king has put his trust in the Lord:
through the mercy of the Most High he shall stand firm.
    O Lord, arise in your strength;
we shall sing and praise your power.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
    and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
    world without end.
    Amen.

You have assumed your great power, you have begun your reign. Alleluia.

    Psalm-prayer

Father, you have given us life on this earth and have met us with the grace of redemption. Bestow your greatest blessing on us, the fullness of eternal life.

    Or:

Lord, you have given your Son a crown of precious stones. Bless your Church that your people may overcome hardship and rejoice in your power and glory.

    ________

    Canticle
    Apocalypse 4,5
    The song of the redeemed

May your whole creation serve you, for you spoke and they came into being. Alleluia.

Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honour and power,
    for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.

    Worthy are you, O Lord,
to take the scroll and to open its seals,
    for you were slain,
and by your blood you ransomed men for God
from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

You have made us a kingdom and priests to our God,
and we shall reign on earth.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
    to receive power and wealth
    and wisdom and might
and honour and glory and blessing.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
    and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
    world without end.
    Amen.

May your whole creation serve you, for you spoke and they came into being. Alleluia.

    ________

    Short Reading
    1 Peter 2:4-5

The Lord is the living stone, rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him; set yourselves close to him so that you too, the holy priesthood that offers the spiritual sacrifices which Jesus Christ has made acceptable to God, may be living stones making a spiritual house.

    ________

    Short Responsory

    The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.
    – The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.
They saw the Lord, alleluia, alleluia.
    – The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
    – The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.

    ________

    Canticle
    Magnificat
My soul rejoices in the Lord

If you loved me you would have been glad that I am going to the Father. Alleluia.

    My soul glorifies the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
    He looks on his servant in her lowliness;
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.

The Almighty works marvels for me.
    Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age,
    on those who fear him.

He puts forth his arm in strength
    and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones
    and raises the lowly.

He fills the starving with good things,
    sends the rich away empty.

    He protects Israel, his servant,
    remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his sons for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
    and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
    world without end.
    Amen.

If you loved me you would have been glad that I am going to the Father. Alleluia.

Rejoicing, let us pray to Christ who was buried in the heart of the earth to awake in the light of glory.
    – King of glory, hear us.

grant that they may present to you a people ready for every kind of good work.
    – King of glory, hear us.

We pray for those who serve the Church as teachers of the faith:
may they always seek your truth with sincerity of heart.
    – King of glory, hear us.

    We pray for all the faithful: may they run the great race, finish the course;
let them receive the crown of victory in the kingdom of heaven.
    – King of glory, hear us.

    Lord, you cancelled on the cross our sentence of damnation;
free us from the darkness of our sins.
    – King of glory, hear us.

    You descended into hell and opened wide its gates;
receive the faithful departed into your Father’s house.
    – King of glory, hear us.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy name.
    Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
    and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.

one God, for ever and ever.
    Amen.
