Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., the Archbishop of Newark, offered words of hope and reassurance to those who are confused or frightened amid the Coronavirus pandemic. He said that fear of the unknown is natural.
“But as people of God, we don’t simply exist on a natural plane,” the Cardinal reflected. “We do our best to build the city of God on earth, but our eyes are also fixed on another city, which is the eternal city, which will not end.”
He quotes Saint Paul in the Letter to the Romans and asked, “What will separate us from the love of God?” Death never has the last word, he said. “So we do our best in solidarity with our brothers and sisters and we believe that nothing will separate us from the saving love of Christ.”
