Avoiding the Father of Error

  • Today I would like to share a passage from The Revelation of Peter taken from The Nag Hammadi Scriptures (revised and updated 2007). This text should not be confused with the Apocalypse of Peter first translated into Greek.

I have had difficulties finding the translated text in its pure form online. I refer often to this text because of their known age and when compared to other texts we find these to be more complete with fewer liberties in translation and changes. This text will not show up on a Google search which I find interesting, to say the least. The text that does appear is not from the above-listed scriptures.

This text exposes the father of error (demiurge) as the one who will distort the word of Christ and hide many of the teachings from the people and lead his followers astray. We know Jesus is speaking of the demiurge because he points to the rulers and the demiurge is the leader of the rulers and the false vengeful and jealous god of the first testament. The father of error is also referred to repeatedly in other texts. The true God is referred to in several books notably The Secret Book of John gives a detailed description of God in the verses contained in, The One (2,25 - 4,19). I found this passage interesting because it closely resembles Quantum Physicists Amit Goswami's views of the universal consciousness.

This text is a warning that few have heard because it has been so completely suppressed. I present this to you for your consideration.

Some First Follow the True Savior, but Then Turn Away to Worship a Dead Man. (73,23-75,7)

"For many will accept our teaching in the beginning. And they will turn from them again by the will of the Father of their error, because they have done his will, and the father of error will disclose them in his judgement as servants of the word. Those who have associated with people of error will become their prisoners, since they are without perception. But the good person who is pure and upright, will be handed over to the dealer of death, in the kingdom of those who praise a Christ of a future restored world. And they also praise people who preach this falsehood, people who will come after you. They will hold on to the name of a dead man, thinking that in this way the will become pure, but instead the will become more and more defiled. They will fall into a name of error and into the hand of an evil deceiver with complicated doctrines, and they will be dominated by heresy."

"Some of them will blaspheme the truth and proclaim evil teachings, and they will speak evil against each other. Some of them will give themselves a name, for they stand in the power of the rulers: the name of a man and a naked women of many forms and many sufferings. And those who say all this will inquire into dreams, and if they claim that dream came from a demon, which is appropriate for their error, they shall be granted perdition instead of incorruption."

It is my interpretation of this text that Jesus is trying to tell us not to worship his name/body and believe that this will cause you to be pure and granted incorruption. We must look to his teachings and follow those, as worshipping a dead man will bear no fruit.

He also tells us that many will proclaim his teachings as evil, this has been done for centuries in the labeling of many of his teachings as blasphemous and evil. Many of his earlier followers were killed and the gospels burned and labeled heresy and blasphemous. Many texts are lost forever due to this. But he is never lost on those who seek him and his full and true teachings.
