Thanksgiving Day Prayer

  • At this time of year we give thanks to what we have received and for our friends and family who are with us and for those who have passed. I offer this prayer for all of us:

As we gather for this meal, I would like to offer thanks to all of you for being here and for sharing the joy of this day with us/me. Our/My  lives/life have been all the better with you in it and we/I appreciate all of you for being in it.

Please bow your heads as we give thanks:

Thank you (insert your deity's name here), for this meal and the love and compassion you have shown us throughout this past year. We thank you for our friends and our loved ones who join us today and for caring and loving those who have passed and are no longer with us.

At this time we take a few moments for each of us to offer a prayer of thanks to you in silence (Pause for your guests to offer a personal prayer).

    Amen.

Some guests may find it awkward to go around the table and ask why they are thankful. It is up to you to decide wether or not you want to do this.
